NYC: What I Did and Yes, I’m Engaged!

As many of you know, I was on vacation in NYC in December for six days! It was my first time in the city and of course, I immediately fell in love. The buildings, the lights, the people — I was addicted.

For this trip, we stayed at The Kimberly Hotel in Midtown Manhattan. It was a perfect location just a few blocks away from Grand Central Station and Central Park. The Kimberly has a swanky vibe with an elegant European flair. It felt like home away from home for the week.

We visited so many tourist spots in the city, walking about eight miles every day (no joke). Let’s just say I got the full NYC experience! Although it was a little chilly, we broke out our winter coats and got in the mood for the holiday season. I was thrilled we were able to make the trip this time of year because of how the city is decorated. All of the Christmas lights and the elaborate store window displays made the city feel magical.

Oh.. and I got engaged. And, yes, I am still floating! 🙂

Check out everything we did day by day below:

DAY 1:

After we finally got to our hotel we were starving. The Kimberly has a nice Italian restaurant called Bistango, which had great reviews so we decided to eat there. I’m not big on eating hotel food, but their lasagna was tasty!

After we ate, we wanted to get out and explore. We decided to walk to Times Square, Rockefeller Center and down to Madison Square to see the high-end store’s window displays. Bergdorf Goodman stole the show with their theme “To New York, With Love” intricate, multi-layered windows. It was spectacular, to say the least.

DAY 2:

To start off our trip, Graham suggested that we walk to Central Park. On the way, we passed by all the high-end stores and all I wanted to do was shop, but no he insisted that we go to the park first.

When we got to the park he walked me to the Gapstow Bridge. There was a faint sound of a violin playing in the background and when we got to the middle of the bridge he turned and got down on one knee.

I was shocked!

We ended our night celebrating our engagement at The Palm Too.  A traditional family-style restaurant known for their “steaks and sketches” of caricatures drawn all over the walls. They also have some of the best cheesecake I’ve ever tasted!

This day was jam-packed. We walked 12 miles! Here’s a list of all we did:

  1. LOUIS VUITTON EXHIBITION:  Extremely beautiful exhibition with free entry! Located at American Stock Exchange Building.
  2. 9/11 MEMORIAL:9-11-memorial_NYC

DAY 4:

After being exhausted from the day before, we decided to take it easy and go see Wicked on Broadway. If you have never seen Wicked, or a Broadway show for that matter, I’d highly recommend it. The acting, singing, dancing, and set are all incredible. You’re left amazed just by how talented the stars in the show. I loved every minute of it.

After the show, we were in the mood for burgers. I’d heard that the best place in town was Black Tap–– ya know, the restaurant all over Instagram with the crazy looking milkshakes? Yes, so we went there and it did not disappoint! I had the cookies and creme milkshake and I’m pretty sure I ascended into heaven for a few minutes.

We were so full after dinner, but we didn’t want our night to end. Graham found us a rooftop bar at the Refinery Hotel with skyline views of Manhattan. The decor is very industrial with brick walls, wood floors, and a glass ceiling.

DAY 5:

SoHo was on my list of places to visit while in New York. I had heard so many great things about this part of town that I wouldn’t let us not spend half a day there shopping and exploring. Also, Graham and I have aspirations to live in NYC and wanted to see if SoHo would be the place for us if we ever decided to move there.

Right when we stepped off the subway and walked up the stairs to the street to see all the Cast-iron buildings… I was sold.
