Happy belated Thanksgiving, everyone!  I hope you all had a lovely day celebrating with friends and family. Thanksgiving is the perfect time to take a moment to remember what you’re thankful for every year.

Graham and I have been together for quite some time, but this was our first Thanksgiving just us – away from our family and friends. Moving across the country and starting a new life basically is hard in general, but it is even more challenging around the holidays.

I’ll be honest we suck at planning and because of that, we have adopted a laissez-faire approach to life, which most of the time works in our favor, but when you’re planning for a feast not so much. Also, we both aren’t the best chefs in the world, so we weren’t sure what to cook – especially last minute.

We knew we would fail miserably if we tried to cook a turkey, so we went with pre-cooked ham instead. We got our ham from Trader Joes, which I’ve got to say, we’ve been shopping there for all our groceries since we moved to L.A. and have been very impressed with their prices and the quality of all their products. I highly recommend that if you have a Trader Joes close by that you shop your groceries there.

The ham was extremely easy to cook and came with a delicious honey glaze topping. For our sides, we made sweet potatoes topped with butter and brown sugar, mac n cheese, brussel sprouts and green beans that we baked with olive oil, salt, and pepper a recipe we learned from watching the Netflix show, Salt Fat Acid Heat (highly recommend). For dessert (my favorite part), we ate apple pie and gingerbread cake.

Overall, we managed not to burn our apartment down so I can say we had a successful Thanksgiving!

How did you celebrate?

And what was your favorite part of your feast?

xx,
